Kateryna Mykolaivna Amosova is a scientist in the field of cardiology, corresponding member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor (1990), Rector of the Oleksandr Bogomolets National Medical University (2014 – 2018).
Place of Birth, Education
She was born on February 8, 1956 in Kyiv. Her father is Academician of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and the National Academy of Medical Sciences Mykola Amosov, and her mother is a surgeon and physiotherapist Lydia Denysenko.
In 1983 she defended her PhD thesis, and in 1988 she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic “Dilated cardiomyopathy”.
Career
Since 1990, Amosova has headed the Department of Hospital Therapy No. 1 of the Oleksandr Bogomolets National Medical University.
In the parliamentary elections of 2006, she ran for people’s deputies under the 1st number in the list of the party “ECO+25%”.
Since February 23, 2014 she has been acting as the rector of Bogomolets NMU and in the same year she was elected the rector of the university.
Later, the Ministry of Health (MOH) dismissed her from her post, but the court reinstated her on April 16, 2017.
In March 2018, she ceased to perform the duties of the rector.
Scientific work
Amosova is a scientist in the field of cardiology. The main areas of her research are heart failure, acute coronary syndromes, coronary heart disease, pulmonary hypertension and cardiomyopathies.
She also studied the effectiveness of ACE inhibitors, the role of immune disorders and oxidative stress in cardiovascular diseases. She developed new criteria for dilating cardiomyopathy.
In particular, Amosova is the author, according to the media, of more than 400 scientific papers, as well as 6 monographs and 26 copyright certificates.
She was the editor-in-chief of the journal “Heart and Vessels” and was a member of the editorial boards of a number of medical publications.
She also served as vice president of the Ukrainian Association of Cardiology, was a member of the European Society of Cardiology and headed the Kyiv City Society of Therapists.
Marital Status
Asmosova is married to Professor Vladimir Mishalov. He has a daughter, Anna.
