MP Gunko was sentenced to 7 years in prison for bribery

On Tuesday, March 25, the High Anti-Corruption Court found Member of Parliament Anatoliy Gunko guilty of bribery. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison. This was reported by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.

The convicted man’s name has not been disclosed, but it is clear from the details of the case that it is Anatoliy Gunko.

The High Anti-Corruption Court found Anatoliy Gunko guilty of accepting a bribe of $85,000 in exchange for leasing land belonging to the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences to a businessman. The court sentenced Gunko to seven years in prison and ordered the confiscation of all property owned by him. In addition, the court barred Gunko for three years from being elected to state or local government bodies, as well as from holding positions in the civil service.

According to the “Anti-Corruption Center,” Gunko admitted to accepting a bribe during questioning. However, his attorney insisted that the MP had been provoked into committing the unlawful acts.

The verdict was handed down by Judges Tetyana Krykliva, Olga Salandyak, and Vitaliy Dubas. Until the verdict takes effect, Anatoliy Gunko has been ordered to wear an electronic ankle monitor.

Gunka and his two accomplices were exposed in August 2023. The total amount of the illicit gains was reportedly $221,000.

The politician was elected to the Rada as a member of the “Servant of the People” party, but after being exposed for bribery, he joined the “Restoration of Ukraine” faction.
