Serhii Marchenko – Minister of Finance of Ukraine (2020 – present), Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine (2016-2018), Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine (2018-2019).
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on January 24, 1981 in the urban-type village of Makariv, Kyiv region.
He graduated from the Academy of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, and in 2002 received a master’s degree in public finance management.
He continued to engage in scientific activities at the Research Financial Institute operating under the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine. In 2009, he successfully defended his dissertation on the topic “State Eurobond Borrowings of Ukraine in the International Capital Market” and received the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences.
Career
Since 2002, he has worked in various positions in the structure of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the State Tax Administration and the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers.
In 2011, Marchenko joined the Coordination Center for the Implementation of Reforms under the President of Ukraine.
Then he worked as an expert at the “Bendukidze Free Market Center”, as well as the academic director of the “Leadership in Public Finance” program, which was implemented in 2015-2016 with the cooperation of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).
From May 27, 2016 to July 26, 2018, he served as Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine, and from August 31, 2018 to May 19, 2019, he worked as Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine under the leadership of Igor Rainin.
On March 30, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada decided to appoint Marchenko as Minister of Finance of Ukraine.
Political Activities
In 2019, he ran for the Ukrainian parliament of the ninth convocation on the list of the Ukrainian Strategy of Groysman party, but the political force did not get into the Verkhovna Rada.
Marital Status
Married. He has two children: Aurora and Leonida.
