Oleksandr Sergeevich Symchyshyn – Mayor of Khmelnytskyi (2015 – present).
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on November 4, 1980 in the village of Yosypivka, Khmelnytskyi region.
He graduated from the Faculty of History of Kamianets-Podilskyi State Pedagogical University.
In 2007, he received a PhD in History.
Career
In 2002, he began his career in the educational field, first working as a teacher in an educational complex, and later joined the Khmelnytskyi Regional Charitable Foundation “Hesed-Besht”.
In the period from 2007 to 2014, he held the positions of lecturer and associate professor of the Department of Jurisprudence at the Khmelnytskyi Institute of Social Technologies. In addition, at this time he was the dean of one of the faculties.
Political Activities
In 2009, Symchyshyn joined the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda” party. The following year, he ran for the post of mayor of Khmelnytskyi from the political force, but could not gain sufficient support from voters. At the same time, he received the mandate of a deputy of the Khmelnytskyi City Council, having passed to it from “Svoboda”.
From 2014 to September 2015, he served as First Deputy Head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional State Administration (RSA). At the same time, from September 2014 to March 2015, he temporarily acted as the head of the Regional State Administration.
In the 2015 local elections, he won in the second round and became the mayor of Khmelnytskyi, gaining 59.9% of the vote. He was nominated from Svoboda.
In 2020, he was re-elected to this position, gaining the support of 86.83% of voters in the first round. In these elections, he also ran for Svoboda.
Marital Status
He is married to Svitlana Symchyshyna.
The couple has three sons: Oleksandr, Svyatoslav and Rostislav.
