Ivan Sergeevich Fedorov – head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration (2024 – current time), mayor of Melitopol (2020 – 2024), deputy of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council from the “Petro Poroshenko Bloc” (2015 – 2020), deputy of the Melitopol City Council from the “Party of Regions” (2010-2015).
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on August 29, 1988 in Melitopol.
In 2011, Fedorov received a master’s degree in Enterprise Economics from the Taurida Agrotechnological University. In 2012, he received a bachelor’s degree in management, completing his studies at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
In 2015, Fedorov continued his education, completing his studies at the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Institute of Public Administration of the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine.
Career
In the period from 2010 to 2013, Fedorov served as director of the private enterprise “Center for Computed Tomography”, which is owned by his parents.
From August to October 2019 , he worked as Director of the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA).
In 2019-2020, he served as First Deputy Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration (RSA) Vitaliy Turynko. At the same time, he was an adviser to Melitopol Mayor Serhiy Minko on issues related to urban planning and architecture.
In 2020, Fedorov won the election of the mayor of Melitopol, running for the Serhiy Minko Team party. He won the support of 59.6% of voters. In addition, he was also nominated as a candidate for deputies of the Melitopol City Council from the same political force.
In February 2024, he was appointed head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration (RMA)
Political Activities
Since 2008, Fedorov has worked as an assistant to a people’s deputy. As he himself noted, he took the first step into “adult” politics in 2009 at the invitation of the then mayor of Melitopol, Dmytro Viktorovich Sychev.
In 2010, he became a deputy of the Melitopol City Council, being elected from the Party of Regions.
In the period from 2014 to 2019, he served as Deputy Mayor of Melitopol Serhiy Minko, responsible for the activities of the executive bodies of the council.
In 2015, Fedorov was elected a deputy of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Council from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc (BPP) party as a non-partisan candidate. As a member of the regional council, he joined the budget commission.
In the same local elections, he also won the mandate of a deputy of the Melitopol City Council from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc. However, Fedorov decided to give up representation in the city council in favor of being a deputy in the regional council.
Abduction
After the occupation of Melitopol by Russian troops in March 2022, Fedorov refused to cooperate with the occupation authorities. On March 11, the occupiers kidnapped him. The very next day, about two thousand residents of Melitopol protested, demanding the mayor’s dismissal.
On March 16, after several days in captivity, where he was tortured, Fedorov was released as part of an exchange for nine Russian conscripts.
