Daniel Patrick Driscoll is an American politician, businessman and lawyer, US Army officer, US Secretary of the Army (2025 – present) and acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (2025 – present).
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on December 4, 1986 in Boone, North Carolina.
At one time, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
After serving in the army, he continued his education at Yale Law School.
During his studies, he met the future Vice President of the United States of America (USA) J.D. Vance, and also studied with former National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Matt Blumenthal, son of Senator from Connecticut Richard Blumenthal.
He comes from a military family: his father served in Vietnam and his grandfather was a decipherer during World War II.
Career
He served in the US Army for three and a half years and completed his service with the rank of first lieutenant.
From August 2007 to March 2011, he was a tank officer and cavalry reconnaissance platoon commander in the 10th Mountain Infantry Division, located at Fort Drum, New York.
In October 2009, he was sent to Iraq for a nine-month rotation as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During his service, he performed tasks in conditions of high threat and fought against rebel groups in urban areas.
After completing his service, Driscoll served on the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs as well as an investment bank in Charlotte, North Carolina.
At one time, he interned with the Chief Judge of the Ninth Circuit, Alex Kozinski, as well as at the law firms Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson.
As of February 2020, he worked at the investment company 100watt.
In 2020, Driscoll ran for the US Congress from the Republican Party, but lost in the primaries to former congressman Madison Cawthorne.
On December 4, 2024, the current US President Donald Trump announced that he plans to nominate Driscoll for the post of Secretary of the Army. Hearings on this issue were held in the Senate on January 30, 2025. On February 25, the upper house of the US Congress approved his candidacy – 66 senators voted in favor, 28 were against.
On April 9, Trump appointed Driscoll as acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. In this position, he succeeded Kash Patel, who became director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
In November, the US President instructed the Minister to act as Special Representative for the Peace Plan for Ukraine.
On November 19, 2025, Driscoll arrived in Kyiv and met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He is married to Cassie Driscoll, who works as a plastic surgeon. The couple has two children.
