Andriy Ivanovych Sybiha – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2024 – present), First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2024), Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine (2021-2024), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Turkey (2016-2021).
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on January 1, 1975 in Zboriv, Ternopil region.
He received higher education at Ivan Franko State University of Lviv, a specialist in international relations, and an English translator.
Later he received an education in the specialty “Jurisprudence” and received the qualification of a lawyer. He is fluent in English and Polish.
Career
In 1997-1998, he began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine, where he worked as an attaché, and later as the third and second secretary in the Department of State and Legal Affairs of the Treaty and Legal Department.
In 1998-2002, he held the positions of Second and First Secretary at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland, and from 2002 to 2003 he worked as the First Secretary of the Department of Legal and Humanitarian Cooperation of the Department of European Integration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
From 2003 to 2005, he served as the head of the Department of International Legal Cooperation of the Treaty and Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
In 2005-2006, he held the position of Head of the Department of International Law and Foreign Policy Legislation of the Treaty and Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. During 2006, he worked as Deputy Director of this Department, combining the duties of the Head of the Department of International Law and Legislation.
In 2006-2008, he continued his career as Deputy Director of the Contractual and Legal Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
From 2008 to 2012, he served as Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland.
In 2012,he served as Director of the Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. In the same year, he headed it.
In the period from 2016 to 2021, Sybiha served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Turkey. Subsequently, in 2021-2024, he worked as Deputy Head of the Office of the President (OP) of Ukraine under the leadership of Andriy Yermak.
On April 12, 2024, Sybiha was appointed First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Later, on September 5, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada approved him as Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Dmytro Kuleba, who had been dismissed earlier.
Marital Status
Married. He has a daughter, as well as two sons.
