Nikolai Petrovich Mozgovoy is a Ukrainian pop singer, composer-songwriter, People’s Artist of Ukraine.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on September 1, 1947 in the village of Sarniv, Volochysk district, Khmelnytskyi region.
During 1962 – 1966 he studied at the Chernivtsi Music College named after Sydor Vorobkevych.
In 1969, he entered the Kharkiv Law Institute, but left his studies in 1973, because from 1971 to 1973 he was educated at the Republican Studio of Variety and Circus Art in Kyiv.
In particular, he studied at the Pyotr Tchaikovsky Kyiv State Conservatory with a degree in solo singing.
Career
In the period from 1971 to 1994, Mozgovoy was a soloist of “Ukrconcert”.
In 1974 – 1975 he held the position of artistic director of the vocal and instrumental ensemble (VIA) “Berkut” in Ivano-Frankivsk.
Over the years of creativity, he wrote many songs and poems that gained wide popularity.
In 1986, he founded his own band – “September”. In the same year, he was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Artist of Ukraine”.
For some time he held the position of a referent of the Central Committee of the Lenin Communist Youth Union of Ukraine (CC LKSMU) on cultural issues, and later worked as a party organizer of the “Ukrconcert”.
In 1991, he became a member of the Writers’ Union of Ukraine.
In the same year, Mozgovoy left the stage and focused on management in the field of show business.
Since 1993, he headed the Volodymyr Ivasyuk Ukrainian Art Foundation. He became the founder and permanent chairman of the jury of the international television festival “The Song Will Be Among Us”, the festival of contemporary Ukrainian song named after Volodymyr Ivasyuk in Chernivtsi, as well as the festival “Sea of Friends” in Yalta.
In the period from 1994 to 1999, he served as director and artistic director of the Ukrainian State Song Theater.
Since 1999, he headed the Department of Theory and Methods of Voice Production at the Institute of Arts of the Mykhailo Drahomanov National Pedagogical University, and in 2004 he received the title of professor.
In the period from 2001 to 2007, he was a member of the Justice party.
In March 2005, he became the general director and artistic director of the National Palace of Arts “Ukraine”.
In 2007, he defended his dissertation on the topic “Formation and trends in the development of Ukrainian pop song” and received a PhD in art history.
Death/Fatalities
He passed away on July 30, 2010. He was buried in Kyiv at the Baikove cemetery.
Marital Status
He was married to Violetta Mozgová.
The couple had a daughter, Elena, for whom the singer wrote several songs, including “White Lilies”, “You Remember”, “Matthiola” and others.
