Oleg Yurievich Skrypka is a multi-instrumentalist musician, actor, vocalist, songwriter, leader of the group “Vopli Vidoplyasova”.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on May 24, 1964 in the city of Khodjent in Tajikistan in a family of Ukrainian immigrants. His father worked as a doctor, and his mother worked as a kindergarten teacher.
He lived in Tajikistan for almost 8 years. In 1972, the family moved to Kirovsk, Murmansk region.
Violin graduated with honors from a music school, where he mastered playing the accordion.
In 1986, he was educated at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
Career
Music career
Skrypka created his first rock band at school, and the next one while studying at the institute. In particular, he played in musical groups and participated in performances, combining it with study.
After graduating from the institute, he worked at the Kvant plant, but later decided to professionally engage in music. In May 1986, the idea arose to create a group, and in October 1987, the permanent composition of “Vopliv Vidoplyasov” was already formed. Together with Skrypka, it included Oleksandr Pipa, Yuriy Zdorenko and Serhiy Sakhno.
In the same year, the band recorded the song “Dances”, which won the Kyiv festival “Rock Parade”.
Already in 1988, “Vopli Vidoplyasova” performed together with the American band Sonic Youth.
In 1990, the band toured France and Switzerland, and moved to France the following year. In 1991, he released his first official album “Either – or”.
In December 1996, the team returned to Kyiv. The following year, the albums “Country of Dreams” and “Music” were released, after which the group toured and expanded the audience.
Skrypka also became the initiator of the Rock-Sich festival and founded the ethno-festival “Country of Dreams”. In particular, he opposes audio piracy.
Theater and television
At one time, Skrypka played in the play “Natalka Poltavka” at the Ivan Franko Theater and starred in the New Year’s musical “Evenings on a Farm Near Dykanka”.
In 2007, he took part in the show “Dancing with the Stars – 2”, and in 2012 he became the coach of “The Voice of the Country”, and later – “Voice. Children”.
In 2013, he launched the festival “Montmartre on Andrew’s Descent”.
Since 2016, he began to host the program “Country of Dreams” on the radio “Kraina FM”.
Marital Status
Skrypka’s first wife was a Frenchwoman, Marie Ribot. They met in early 1990 in Paris and lived together for 7 years. The marriage broke up after the musician’s decision to return to Ukraine, as Ribault did not want to leave France.
In 1997, Skrypka met Natalia Sid. Around 2005, they got married. The couple has 4 children – sons Roman and Ustym and daughters Olesya and Zoryana.
