Illarion Stanislavovich Pavlyuk is a Ukrainian writer, producer, head of the Press and Information Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, lieutenant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (since 2023), participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war, journalist, documentary filmmaker.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on May 14, 1980 in the city of Skadovsk, Kherson region.
From the age of 7, he lived with his parents on Russian Sakhalin for some time. After returning to Ukraine, he lived in Luhansk.
From 1996 to 2001, he studied at the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University at the Faculty of Journalism.
Career
In 2001, Pavliuk moved to Kyiv and began working as an international reporter. He focused on the Arab-Israeli conflict.
At the beginning of 2010, he took the position of producer of the Department of Documentary and Artistic Projects at the 1+1 TV channel, which he left with the team in 2011.
In the same year, he was a member of the jury of the 63rd American Emmy Television Awards.
He is a co-owner of the production company Ivory Films. In particular, he was the author of the documentaries “Code of the Nation”, “Ordinary Zombies. How Lies Work”, “Zombies 2. Brainwashing”, “Azure Dust” and other tapes.
In 2018, his debut novel “White Ashes” was published – a noir-style detective story with references to Nikolai Gogol’s story “Viy”. The following year, he presented the science fiction novel “The Dance of the Idiot”, which was shortlisted for the BBC Book of the Year Award – 2019.
In 2020, the psychological thriller “I See You Are Interested in Darkness” was released. The book was shortlisted for the BBC Book of the Year 2020 award, and in 2023 it topped the top sales of the Old Lion Publishing House.
In 2025, the book “Emil’s Book” was published in Lviv by the Old Lion Publishing House.

Pavliuk is a father of many children.
