Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie Pitt is an American actress, film director, screenwriter, producer and public figure.

Place of Birth, Education

She was born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, United States of America (USA) in the family of actor Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand. He has an older brother, James Haven.

In 1976, her parents divorced, after which Bertrand moved to New York with her children.

Subsequently, Voight won an Oscar for the film Homecoming, and Jolie’s mother gave up her acting career and focused on raising children.

At the age of 11, the future film actress moved with her family back to Los Angeles. There, for two years, she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute, while attending Beverly Hills High School.

Acting career

At the age of 14, Jolie began working as a model, collaborated with the Finesse Model Management agency. She has worked in Europe and the United States, including Los Angeles, New York and London. She starred in videos for Meat Loaf, Lenny Kravitz and other artists.

She made her film debut in 1982. She gained fame after the role of Lara Croft in the films “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life” in 2001 and 2003, respectively.

Later she appeared in the films “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” in 2005, “Especially Dangerous” in 2008, “Salt” in 2010.

From 2014 to 2019, she played the role of Maleficent in the films “The Sorceress” and “The Sorceress: Queen of Darkness”.

In 2021, she played Tena in the film “Eternals”, and three years later, in 2024, she played the main role in the film “Maria” and received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.

Directorial career

In 2007, she made her directorial debut with the documentary “A Place in Time”.

Subsequently, she filmed “In the Land of Blood and Honey” in 2011 and “Unbreakable” in 2014.

In 2015, the drama “By the Sea” was released, in which Jolie acted as a screenwriter and producer, and also played the main role together with Brad Pitt.

In 2017, she directed the film “First They Killed My Father” for Netflix. The Khmer-language film with local actors received nominations for a Golden Globe and a BAFTA.

In September 2024, Jolie presented the film “Without Blood” at the Toronto Film Festival, where she acted as a screenwriter and producer.

In the same year, she produced the musical “Outsiders”, which received a Tony Award.

In 2013, Jolie received the Gene Hersholt Award from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for humanitarian work.

A year later, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain gave her the title of lady and presented her with the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George.

In 2015, she became a laureate of the WSJ Innovator Awards for humanitarian activities.

She is one of the first actresses to receive three Golden Globes in a row in various categories: for her roles in the projects “George Wallace” in 1997, “Gia” in 1998 and “Interrupted Life” in 1999.

She also received an Oscar for her supporting role in the 1999 film “Interrupted Life”.

Community Service

Interest in humanitarian issues, as Jolie said, appeared after a trip to Cambodia duringthe filming of the film “Lara Croft – Tomb Raider”. After that, she applied to the United Nations (UN) Commission on Refugees and in February 2001 visited Sierra Leone and Tanzania, where she was deeply impressed by what she saw.

Over the following months, the actress went to Cambodia again, and also visited Afghan refugee camps in Pakistan. Then she donated $1 million to help through the Commission’s funds.

On August 27, 2001, Jolie was appointed Goodwill Ambassador of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Over the next 4 years, she made a number of humanitarian trips to Kenya, Thailand, Ecuador, Sudan, Kosovo, Angola, Sri Lanka, and also visited Iraqi refugee camps in Jordan.

On April 30, 2022, during Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, she came to Ukraine for the first time. In Lviv, I met with children affected by a missile attack on the railway station in Kramatorsk, as well as with IDPs.

In December of the same year, Jolie left her post as Special Envoy of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

On November 5, 2025, she visited Kherson and Mykolaiv.

Marital Status

The personal life of the actress often attracted media attention. She was married 3 times, but all marriages ended in divorce.

In 1996, at the age of 20, she married actor Jonny Lee Miller, but a year later the couple broke up, maintaining friendly relations.

From 2000 to 2003, she was married to Billy Bob Thorton.

After that, she married Brad Pitt, with whom she broke up in September 2016.

Together with Pitt, he is raising 6 children: Knox, Vivienne and Shiloh are relatives, Maddox, Zahara and Pex are adopted.
