Volodymyr Vladimirovich Petrov is a Ukrainian political strategist, producer, blogger.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on November 20, 1977 in Dnipropetrovsk (now Dnipro).
He received his higher education at the Kryvyi Rih Technical University, having received the specialty of a mining engineer in underground mining of deposits.
Career
In 2002, Petrov began his career as a journalist at Street Television, and in 2005 he took the position of editor-in-chief of the news department at the KRT TV channel. In the period from 2005 to 2007, he served as the general director of the TV channel.
In 2010, he became the founder of the B&D Information Agency, where TV presenter Alexei Durnev became editor-in-chief. His author’s program “Durnev +1” was aired on the TET TV channel, and was also published on Petrov’s YouTube channel under the name Lumpen production.
In 2011, Lumpen production bought out a 50% stake in the online tabloid Ragu.li.
After completing his cooperation with the TET TV channel, Petrov focused on developing his own projects on NLO TV. In 2015, he became the host of the Lumpen Show program.
Since 2016, he has been one of the hosts in the program “Dangerous Programs”, which aired on the Russian TV channel “Friday”.
In 2018, he launched his own YouTube channel “Iceland”, which covers topics of politics, science and culture.
In 2021, he worked as a TV presenter on the Ukrainian parliamentary TV channel Rada.
Political Activities
In 2010, Petrov was engaged in the PR campaign of Arseniy Yatsenyuk during the presidential election. In the Verkhovna Rada of the VI convocation, he worked on a voluntary basis as an assistant-consultant to the people’s deputy from the “Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc” Svyatoslav Oliynyk. At the same time, he is associated with campaigns aimed at discrediting Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Oleksiy Honcharenko, Oleh Lyashko and other politicians.
In 2012, he participated in the parliamentary elections, running for people’s deputies in the 133rd constituency in Odesa.
In 2015, he was a candidate for the Dnipro City Council from the Nash Krai party.
In 2019, he ran for president as an independent candidate. In the same year, he tried to enter the Verkhovna Rada in the 221st constituency in Kyiv, running as an independent candidate and a member of the Right Conservative Party of Ukraine “Northern Way”.
Criminal case
In 2018, Petrov was charged under several articles, in particular: violation of the secrecy of correspondence and telephone conversations, false reporting of a crime with fabrication of evidence, pressure on a law enforcement officer to obstruct his activities, as well as illegal collection, storage and use of confidential information.
The case was opened due to a scandal related to allegations of sexual harassment by an official of the National Police of Ukraine, Oleksandr Varchenko.
The then Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine, Anatoliy Matios, said that Petrov, together with blogger Oleksandr Baraboshko, used personal data from closed sources to interfere in personal life.
Petrov rejected all accusations. Initially, the court sent him under round-the-clock house arrest, but later he was released on personal recognizance.
