Olga Vadymivna Bogomolets—a dermatologist, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament (2014–2019), and advisor to the President of Ukraine on humanitarian issues.
Place of Birth, Education
She was born on March 22, 1966, in Kyiv to a family of doctors.
Her mother, Kateryna Bogomolets, was a professor in the Department of Pathological Anatomy at the Bogomolets National Medical University, and his father, Vadym Berezovskyi, headed the Department of Clinical Pathophysiology at the Bogomolets Institute of Physiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
In 1989, she graduated with honors from the Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute with a degree in “General Medicine.”
From 1989 to 1991, she completed a clinical residency at the Ukrainian State Institute for the Advanced Training of Physicians.
From 1993 to 1994, she studied at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, where she took a course in environmental dermatology, as well as at the Bernard Ackerman Institute of Dermatopathology.
In 2001, she graduated from Dragomanov National Pedagogical University with a degree in practical psychology.
In 2003, she received a Doctor of Medical Sciences degree from Bogomolets National Medical University, specializing in “skin and sexually transmitted diseases.”
In December 2014, she completed a training course titled “Current Issues in the Organization of Medical Support for the Troops” at the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy of the Ministry of Defense.
Career
From 1989 to 1991, Bogomolets worked as a clinical resident and dermatologist at the Kyiv City Dermatology and Venereology Clinic.
From 1991 to 1995, she served as a senior research fellow at the Laboratory of Radiation Pathology of the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Ukraine.
From 1992 to 1994, she worked as a consulting dermatologist for the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ (MIA) “Register” in the area of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (CNPP).
From 1995 to 2000, she headed the Department of Cutaneous Histopathology at the Kyiv Regional Dermatology and Venereology Clinic.
From 1997 to 2014, she was the founder and chief physician of Dr. Bogomolets’ Laser Medicine Clinic.
From 2000 to 2002, she worked as a dermatologist and venereologist at the Kyiv City Dermatology and Venereology Clinic.
From 2004 to 2005, she served as the personal physician to Ukraine’s third president, Viktor Yushchenko.
On February 20, 2007, she was appointed professor in the Department of Dermatology and Venereology at Bogomolets National Medical University in Kyiv.
He has been a professor at Odessa State Medical University since 2009.
Bogomolets is also:
- Coordinator of the European Association of Laser Dermatology in Eastern Europe;
- a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
Political Activities
From 2005 to 2008, she served as a member of the Kyiv City Council, having been elected on the “Our Ukraine” bloc’s ticket.
In 2006, she joined the “Capital Reforms” faction, which was part of the majority led by politician Leonid Chernovetskyi. She chaired the Kyiv City Council’s standing committee on health care and social protection.
In 2008, she announced her resignation from the Kyiv City Council.
From 2013 to 2014, she served as the coordinator of the Euromaidan medical service.
On March 29, 2014, she submitted her documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) to register as an independent candidate for President of Ukraine. She finished eighth in the election, receiving 1.91% of the vote.
On September 1, she was appointed as a special advisor on humanitarian issues to Ukraine’s 5th president, Petro Poroshenko.
On October 26, she was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the Petro Poroshenko Bloc ticket and became chair of the Health Care Committee.
On December 6, 2018, she announced her intention to run in the 2019 presidential election. On December 20, Poroshenko signed a decree dismissing Bogomolets from her position as a special advisor.
Marital Status
She is married to attorney Igor Kyryliuk.
The couple has four children: a son, Andriy, and three daughters—Kateryna, Hanna, and Sofia.
