Yuriy Yevgenyevich Butusov is a journalist, editor-in-chief, and founder of the website “Censor.Net,” as well as a military officer.
Place of Birth, Education
Butusov was born on June 17, 1976, in Kyiv.
He received his higher education at the Institute of International Relations at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, where he majored in “International Law.”
Career
In 2000, Butusov began his career as a journalist at the newspaper *Kyivski Vedomosti*. Three years later, in 2003, he joined the editorial staff of the newspaper *Dzerkalo Tyzhnia*, where he worked as a columnist.
In 2004, he founded the online portal “Censor.Net” and became its editor-in-chief.
In addition to his work as a journalist, Butusov was involved in film production. In 2005, he wrote the screenplay for the film *Orange Sky*, and in 2008, he produced the film *The Illusion of Fear*.
In 2007, he became head of the “Socialist Party of Ukraine” media holding company, which included the newspaper “Tovarysh.”
From 2014 to 2015, he served as a member of the selection committee responsible for screening candidates for the position of director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).
In 2016, he joined the commission responsible for selecting the director of the Agency for the Recovery and Management of Assets (ARMA).
In December 2020, he served for several months as a special advisor to Andriy Taran, who was Ukraine’s defense minister at the time.
In the spring of 2025, he announced his mobilization into the ranks of the Ukrainian National Guard.
Marital Status
He is married to Daria Butusova. The couple has three daughters: Bogdana, Eva, and Veronica.
