Iryna Volodymyrivna Gerashchenko – People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the VI-IX convocations, co-chair of the European Solidarity faction in the Verkhovna Rada of the IX convocation.
Place of Birth, Education
She was born on May 15, 1971 in the city of Cherkasy.
In 1993, she graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko State University of Kyiv, and in 2011 she received a master’s degree from the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine.
The following year, she completed her studies at the Faculty of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
Career
After completing her studies at the Faculty of Journalism, Gerashchenko began her professional career on the UT-1 TV channel. Later, she worked in the news service of the Inter TV channel, where she was first a correspondent, and later headed the editorial office of the politics department. She also collaborated with the television news agency Profi TV, where she became the author of one of the programs.
In 2005, she held the position of press secretary and head of the press service of the then President Viktor Yushchenko.
In 2006, she became the president of the UNIAN news agency.
Political Activities
In 2007, she was elected to the Ukrainian parliament for the first time. She got into the Rada as a candidate from the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense bloc. Subsequently, she was re-elected in 2012 from the UDAR party and in 2014 from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc.
In the period from 2014 to 2019, she was the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for the peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. In 2016, she took the position of First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
In the parliamentary elections of 2019, she again became a member of parliament from the European Solidarity party. In the Verkhovna Rada of the IX convocation, she was elected co-chair of the faction of the political force together with Artur Gerasimov.
Marital Status
She is married to Anton Zatsepin. The couple has three children: Anna, Sofia and Oleksandra.
