Gennadiy Leonidovich Trukhanov – Mayor of Odessa (2014 – present), People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the VII convocation.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on January 17, 1965 in the city of Odesa.
In 1986, he graduated from the Odessa Higher Artillery Command School of the Order of Lenin named after Frunze with a degree in the repair and operation of automotive equipment.
In the period from 2002 to 2006, he studied at the Kyiv National University of Internal Affairs, where he received a law degree. In 2013, he completed his studies at the Odesa Regional Institute of Public Administration of the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine.
Career
Since 1986, he served in the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union, being in the North Caucasus Military District. He ended his military career in 1992, having the rank of captain.
After his discharge from the army, he headed the security service of the small research and production enterprise “Minimax”. During 1993-1996, he held the position of director of the security company “Captain Co”.
In the period from 2001 to 2002, he worked as an advisor to the General Director on security issues at Lukoil-Ukraine. After that, he became an assistant to the representative of the president of the company in Ukraine on security issues until 2003.
From 2003 to 2020, he headed the Ukrainian National Thai Boxing Federation “Muay Thai”.
During 2007-2008, he worked as an advisor to the director of Ukrtranscontainer on interaction with government agencies and the public.
After that, he moved to the State Committee of Ukraine for Veterans Affairs, where he worked as a chief specialist in the department for work with regions.
In 2012, for several months, he held the position of Deputy General Director for Client Work at the Brooklyn-Kyiv Limited Liability Company (LLC).
In 2014, he became president of the European Thai Boxing Federation.
Political Activities
During 2004 – 2007, he worked as an adviser and assistant-consultant in the Verkhovna Rada staff.
From 2005 to 2012, he was a deputy of the Odessa City Council. In 2005, he won a mandate in a majoritarian constituency, in 2006 he became a deputy on the list of the People’s Bloc of Lytvyn, and in 2010 he entered the city council on the list of the Party of Regions, after which he headed the faction of the political force.
In the parliamentary elections of 2012, he received the mandate of a people’s deputy from the Party of Regions.
At the beginning of 2014, he left the political force faction and joined the deputy group “Economic Development”.
In 2014, he won the election of the mayor of Odesa as an independent candidate, receiving 43.49% of the vote in the first round.
In the next elections in 2015, he was re-elected to this position from the “Trust the Deeds” party, gaining the support of 37.54% of voters. In the same year, he headed the list of political forces in the elections to the Odesa city and regional councils.
In 2019, he ran unsuccessfully for the Verkhovna Rada from the Opposition Bloc.
In the same year, together with Gennadiy Kernes, he became co-chairman of the “Trust the Deeds” party.
In 2020, he won the post of mayor of Odesa for the third time, running from the same political force.
