Boris Filatov

Borys Albertovich Filatov – Mayor of Dnipro (2015 – current time), People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the VIII convocation (2014 – 2015), Deputy Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration for Internal Policy (2014).

Place of Birth, Education

He was born on March 7, 1972 in Dnipro (formerly Dnipropetrovsk).

In 1993, he graduated with honors from Dnipropetrovsk State University, having simultaneously received two specialties – history and social science, as well as law.

In 1997, at the Odessa National Law Academy, he defended his PhD thesis in the specialty “Theory of Law. Philosophy of Law”.

Career

He worked as a legal adviser in companies of various forms of ownership, and also taught civil law at the Academy of the Customs Service of Ukraine.

In 2000, he received an official permit to practice law, after which he started his own legal practice. He was involved in court cases, in particular those related to businessman Ihor Kolomoisky.

In 2006, he declared income, which allowed him to officially get into the list of millionaires in dollar terms.

In 2005, he retired from active advocacy and took up journalism. From then until 2010, he was the author and host of the program “Provincial Chronicles”, which was broadcast on the regional “Channel 9”, which is associated with the financial and industrial group “Privat”.

In 2010, he left Channel 9 and began to host the program “Provincial Forecasts”, which was broadcast on Channel 51 of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Television and Radio Company.

On March 4, 2014, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, responsible for domestic policy.

Political Activities

In 2014, he took the post of deputy head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, which at that time was headed by Ihor Kolomoisky.

In the same year, he became a people’s deputy of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada of the VIII convocation as an independent candidate. He remained a non-factional member in parliament.

He is considered one of the founders of the political party “Ukrainian Union of Patriots” (“UKROP”), of which he was a member until 2018.

In 2015, he was elected mayor of Dnipro for the first time, running for UKROP. He also headed the party’s electoral list in the elections to city and regional councils.

In 2020, he joined the political force “Proposition” and was re-elected for a second term as mayor of Dnipro.

Marital Status

He is married to Marina Filatova. The couple has a daughter, Kateryna.
