Place of Birth, Education
He was born on August 19, 1968 in Lviv.
In 1995 he graduated from Lviv Polytechnic State University, having received the qualification of an electronic engineer, and in 1997 he completed his studies at the same institution with a degree in finance and credit, receiving a diploma in economics.
In 1999, he graduated from the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine, where he received a master’s degree in public administration.
Career
In the period from 1987 to 1989, he served in the ranks of the Soviet Army.
After that, he began working as an adjuster of electronic equipment at the production enterprise “Lvivprylad”.
During 1992 – 1995, he held the position of Deputy Director of the Lviv Branch of the Fund for Social Adaptation of Youth under the Cabinet of Ministers.
From 1997 to 2005, he headed the board and board of the Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC) “Pivdenzakhidelektromerezhbud”. At the same time, in the period from 2002 to 2005, he was the chairman of the board of the Closed Joint Stock Company (CJSC) “TV and Radio Company Lux”.
In January 2006, he launched the 24 news channel.
Social activities
In the period from 1997 to 2001, he headed the board of the public organization (NGO) “Lviv Region Development Fund”.
During 2000-2002, he was the chairman of the supervisory board of the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Cultural Foundation.
In 2002-2003, he founded and headed the NGO “Institute of City Development”.
Since 2003, he has served as deputy chairman of the board of the Bridges to the East Institute, and since 2005 he has become the leader of the Lviv public association (NGO) Samopomich.
Political Activities
During 1998 – 2002 he was a deputy in the Lviv City Council, where he headed the commission on economic policy. On March 26, 2006, he won the election of the mayor of Lviv.
For a long time he was a member of the “Our Ukraine” party, but on June 27, 2009, of his own free will, he left the political force. In 2010, he won the post of mayor of Lviv for the second time, running for the Republican Christian Party.
In December 2012, he founded the political party “Samopomich” and headed it. At the early parliamentary elections on October 26, 2014, the political force won representation in the Verkhovna Rada for the first time.
At the local elections held in the fall of 2015, Sadovyi was elected mayor of Lviv for the third time. On January 3, 2019, he officially announced his intention to run for the presidency of Ukraine, but on March 1 of the same year he withdrew his candidacy in favor of Anatoliy Hrytsenko.
During the early parliamentary elections of 2019, he headed the electoral list of the Samopomich Union party. However, according to the results of the vote, the party could not overcome the 5% barrier and did not receive seats in the Verkhovna Rada. On October 19, 2019, the leadership of the party was headed by Oksana Syroid.
In the local elections held in the fall of 2020, Sadovyi won again, remaining in the post of mayor of Lviv.

Married to Catherine Keith. The couple raised five sons: John-Paul, Thaddeus-Luke, Michael, Joseph, Anthony.
