Vasily Parmenovich Obraztsov is a therapist, professor, doctor of medicine, active state councilor, nobleman, one of the founders of the Kiev therapeutic school.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on January 1 (13 according to the Gregorian calendar) 1849 in Gryazovka, Russia, in the family of a priest.
In 1875 he graduated from the Medical and Surgical Academy in St. Petersburg.
Career
From 1877 to 1879, Obraztsov served as a military doctor and took part in the Russo-Ottoman war.
In 1879, he trained in Berlin with the scientist Rudolf Virchow, and a year later, in 1880, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the formation of blood in the bone marrow.
From 1893 to 1918 he was a professor at Kyiv University and headed the Department of Special Pathology. He founded his own therapeutic school, which paid attention to the physical examination of patients.
Obraztsov is the author of more than 50 scientific papers on the diagnosis of diseases of the cardiovascular system and digestive organs.
In 1887, he also developed a method of deep sliding palpation of the abdominal organs, which was widely used to diagnose diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. He also investigated enteritis, appendicitis and other diseases of the digestive system.
In 1910, Obraztsov improved the methods of percussion and auscultation of the heart, and also described the features of its tones and rhythm.
Together with the therapist Mykola Strazhesko, in 1909-1910, he first described the clinical picture of coronary artery thrombosis. This made it possible to develop a lifetime diagnosis of myocardial infarction.

He died on December 27, 1920 or 1921 in Kyiv.
Marital Status
Obraztsov was married twice. His first wife was a doctor Alexandra Guzhina, and a daughter, Natalia, was born in the marriage.
In 1916, he married for the second time – with Varvara Chegodaeva.
