Luke Thompson

Luke Thompson is an English actor.

Place of Birth, Education

He was born on July 4, 1988 in Southampton. From the age of 2 he grew up in France. His father worked as an engineer and his mother was a teacher.

From 1997 to 2005 he studied at the International Lycée François-Hières in Fontainebleau.

He studied English and drama at the University of Bristol, after which he continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He graduated from the latter in 2013.

Career

In 2006, he returned to England and worked for a year at the drama company Year Out in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Theatrical career

For his role in the play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Globe Theater, Thompson received nominations for the Evening Standard Theatre Award and the Ian Charleson Award. He also played Will Bennett in the production of “Blue Stockings”, Mark Antony in “Julius Caesar” and Ifocles in the play “Broken Heart”. Other theatrical works include James in “Tigerland” at the Hampstead Theatre, Orestes in “Oresteia” on the stage of “Almeida” and Laertes in “Hamlet” in 2017.

In 2018, Thompson got the role of Edgar in the play King Lear, where he played alongside Ian McKellen.

He played the role of Willem in the English-language stage adaptation of “A Little Life”. The first screenings started in March 2023 at the Richmond Theater, after which the play was moved to the Harold Pinter Theater, and later to the Savoy Theater. For this work, the actor received a WhatsOnStage award and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award.

In January 2024, it became known that Thompson got the lead role of Barone in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Love’s Futile Effort.

Film career

From 2014 to 2016, he starred in the BBC One drama series “In the Club”, where he played the role of Simon.

At the end of 2016, he became the narrator in the radio adaptation of Frederick Forsythe’s novel “The Guide” for BBC Radio 3.

The film debut took place in 2017 – a small role as a war officer in Christopher Nolan’s film Dunkirk. He later played Peter Gein in the film Miss Bad Behavior.

In 2019, Thompson auditioned for the role of Benedict in the series “The Bridgertons”, which was released in 2020 and was based on the novels by Julia Quinn.

He also starred in the miniseries about World War II “Overseas”, where he played Giram Bingham IV.
