Dmitry Komarov

Dmitry Konstantinovich Komarov is a Ukrainian journalist, traveler, photographer, author and host of the World Inside Out program.

Place of Birth, Education

He was born on June 17, 1983 in Kyiv in the family of Konstantin and Nina Komarov.

After graduating from high school, he continued his studies at the university and received two higher educations – an engineer and a public relations specialist. At first, he studied at the National Transport University, and later received a second education at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.

Career

Komarov came to journalism at an early age: he published his first article at the age of 12, and at 16 he already got his first job in the weekly “Teleweek”. There he served as editor of the column “Husband”.

At the age of 17, he became a photojournalist: he photographed Ukrainian and world stars who came on tour to Kyiv, and then sold exclusive photos to publications. As a journalist and photographer, he collaborated with dozens of print media. For six years he was a correspondent for the newspaper “KP in Ukraine”, and in the period from 2007 to 2010 he worked as a special correspondent of “Izvestia in Ukraine”. He also published his materials in the magazines “Playboy”, EGO and others.

“The World Inside Out”

Even before creating the World Inside Out project, Komarov visited more than 20 countries on his own. He proposed the idea of the project to various TV channels, but each time he was refused. Only after meeting the general director of the City TV channel and one of the producers of “1+1”, he was offered to independently prepare a pilot episode and demonstrate the result.

The first season of the program “The World Inside Out” Komarov created at his own expense. The theme of the debut season was Cambodia, and it consisted of 8 episodes. The premiere of the project took place on December 11, 2010 on the 1+1 TV channel. In the period up to September 2023, 14 seasons of the program were released.

In 2021, Komarov launched a new author’s project about traveling in Ukraine called “Travel Ukraine with Dmytro Komarov”. As of September 2023, 3 seasons of this project have already been aired on the 1+1 TV channel.

Full-scale war

Since February 2022, Komarov has been covering the events of the invasion of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine.

Komarov was part of the first column of Ukrainian fighters in Hostomel, and also became the first journalist to prepare reports from Bucha and Irpin.

On February 24, 2023, Komarov’s documentary project called “Year” was released on the 1+1 TV channel on the anniversary of the full-scale war. The program featured his reports from hot spots and exclusive interviews with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the then Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi.

In the fall of 2023, Komarov presented two of his own documentaries. The first project called “Year. Kharkiv region” was dedicated to the de-occupation of the Kharkiv region. The second film is “Year. Kherson” – came out on the anniversary of the liberation of Kherson and the right-bank part of the Kherson region.
