Olena Alexandrovna Kucher, married Topolya is a Ukrainian singer, composer and songwriter.
Place of Birth, Education
She was born on May 14, 1986 in Zaporizhzhia in the family of a policeman, an employee of the State Automobile Inspectorate (GAI) Oleksandr Kucher, and an employee of the aircraft plant Lyudmila Kucher.
During her school years, she sang in the choir and attended the Yunost music studio.
She received her higher education at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts at the Faculty of Pop Vocals.
Career
2006 – 2015
In 2006, she won the international competition “Yalta 2006”, and two years later she became the winner of the II International Television Competition “Songs of the Sea”.
She performed under the stage name Alyosha.
On March 20, 2010, she won the National Selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 with the song “To be free”. Later it turned out that her composition was similar to the song “Knock Me Out” by Linda Perry, which is why the singer was accused of plagiarism. It also turned out that the song was published for sale on Amazon and MySpace back in 2008, which contradicted the rules of the European Broadcasting Union. Because of this, Topolia was offered to change the competition composition.
Already on the 25th, the singer presented a new song – “Sweet People”, with which she went to Eurovision in Oslo. At the end of May, she reached the final of the competition, where she eventually took tenth place.
In the same year, she presented the English-language album “A World Outside Your Door”, which was released in the United States with the support of Sony BMG.
A year later, she received the title of “Singer of the Year” in the Ukrainian rating of folk preferences “Favorites of Success”.
In 2015, she released the album “Point on the Map”, which consisted of 2 parts.
2015 – 2020
On May 31, 2017, a video for the song “Kalyna” was released, the music and lyrics for which Topolia wrote herself. For the next 4 years, the video was included in the list of the 50 most popular Ukrainian music videos.
In December, the M1 Music Awards: Element III ceremony took place, where the singer performed “Viburnum”. The composition was nominated in three categories at once: the joint project of M1 and KissFM “Dance Parade”, the best performance at the ceremony, and “Chervona Ruta”, in which the song won.
On May 19, 2018, the Golden Firebird award ceremony took place in the capital’s Palace “Ukraine”, where the singer was nominated in 5 categories at once: “Singer of the Year”, “Hit of the Year”, “Video of the Year”, “People’s Hit” and “Dance Hit” for the song “Kalina”. She won in the nomination “Hit of the Year”. During the concert, the singer also performed the new composition “Tequila” for the first time.
In December, Alyosha ended cooperation with producer Vadim Lysytsia after 15 years of working together. The place of the latter was taken by Yevhen Antipenko.
From February 13 to April 17, 2019, the “Nearby” tour took place, which covered 20 cities of Ukraine.
On October 17, together with singer Vlad Darwin, they announced the presentation of the joint album “Golden Mean”.
In December, the singer and Vlad Darwin presented the song “Happiness Without Guilt”.
2020 – tep. Time
In 2023, Alyosha performed during one of the Eurovision semifinals. She sang in a duet with singer Rebecca Ferguson the composition Ordinary World by Duran Duran.
In the fall, the singer began to perform under the name “Elena Topolya”.
In January 2024, the joint song “Via dall’Inferno”, recorded together with Italian singer Fabio De Vincente, was released.
In April, Topolia invited him to join her concert tour of the cities of Ukraine.
Marital Status
In the summer of 2013, she married singer Taras Topolya, the leader of the band “Antytila”. The couple had three children:
- son Roman, born in 2013;
- son Mark, born in 2015;
- daughter Maria, born in 2020.
In December 2025, the couple announced their divorce.
