Vera Farmiga

Vera Farmiga is an American actress, director and producer of Ukrainian origin.

Place of Birth, Education

She was born on August 6, 1973 in Clifton, New Jersey, United States of America (USA). She is the second child in a family of Ukrainian immigrants – computer analyst Mykhailo Farmiga and teacher Lyubomyra Farmiga. He has three brothers – Victor, Stepan and Alexander, as well as three sisters – Nadezhda, Larisa and Taissa.

She did not speak English until she was six years old. She studied at a Ukrainian Catholic school in the city of Newark, performed in a Ukrainian folk dance group and was a member of the scout organization “Plast”.

When the future actress was 12 years old, her family moved to Newark, where she began studying at the Ukrainian Catholic School of St. John the Baptist and joined the folk dance ensemble “Gray-winged”.

Career

In the late 1990s, she began acting in television series and films.

Since the early 2000s, her career has gone up – she appeared in the films “Autumn in New York”, “Doll” and “Manchurian Candidate”.

For the most part, the actor is known for her role as Lorraine Warren in films such as:

  • “The Conjuring” (2013);
  • “The Conjuring 2” (2016);
  • “The Conjuring 3: At the Devil’s Command” 2021;
  • “Anabel 3” 2019.

In the same way, she played the main roles in films:

  • “The Departed” (2006);
  • “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”2008;
  • “Source code” of 2011;
  • “Cape Town Access Code” 2012;
  • “The Judge” in 2014;
  • “The Conjuring 2” (2016);
  • “Race Leader” 2018;
  • Godzilla II: King of the Monsters (2019);

From 2013 to 2017, Farmiga played the role of Norma Louise Bates in the drama series Bates Motel. For this work, she was nominated for an Emmy Award.

In 2021, she played Eleanor Bishop in the Hawkeye miniseries from Marvel.

In 2025, The Conjuring 4: The Last Rite, starring Farmiga, set a world record for horror films , both at the box office in the first week of release and at the general box office.

  • 2006 – Sputnik Award in the category “Best Cast in a Motion Picture” for the film “The Departed”;
  • 2006 – Award of the National Board of Film Critics of the United States in the nomination “Best Cast” for the film “The Departed”;

  • 2014 – Saturn Award in the nomination “Best TV Actress” for the series “Bates Motel”.

Marital Status

From 1997 to 2004, she was married to French actor Sebastien Rocher.

In 2008, she married Ren Hawke. On January 15, 2009, the couple had a son, Finn, and on November 4, 2010, Gitta’s daughter Lyubov was born.
