Oleksandr Anatolyevich Alferov is a Ukrainian historian, radio presenter, public and political figure, head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on November 30, 1983 in Kyiv.
In 2001, he completed his studies at Kyiv secondary school No. 137. During his school years, he participated in competitions of the Junior Academy of Sciences (JAS) and in 2001 became the winner of the All-Ukrainian stage of the Academy of Sciences in history.
In 2006, he completed his studies at the Institute of Historical Education of the Mykhailo Drahomanov National Pedagogical University. He received the specialty of a teacher of history and a teacher of law.
In 2012, he defended his PhD thesis in the specialty “History of Ukraine” on the topic “The role of the Cossack officers’ family of Golubs in the history of Ukraine in the XVI – XVIII centuries”.
In particular, he studied, studied at the correspondence department of the Kyiv Orthodox Theological Academy.
Career
Since 2008, he has worked as a radio presenter at the Ukrainian Radio Culture, and since 2012 he has hosted the author’s program “Historical Frescoes”.
In 2010, he became a junior researcher at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), and since 2012 he has been a researcher at the institution.
In the period from 2014 to 2018, he served as press secretary of MP Andriy Biletsky. From the winter of 2014 to June 2015, he headed the press service of the Azov Regiment.
Since 2019, he has worked as a TV presenter on the UA: Culture TV channel.
In 2020-2021, he coordinated the Ukrainian branch of the Princeton University project “Framing the Late Antique and Medieval Economy”.
Since April 2022, he has been an officer of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) “Azov-Kyiv”. Since September of the same year, he has been an officer of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade – the head of the humanitarian training and information support group in the Department of Psychological Support of Personnel.
On June 27, 2025, Alferov was appointed head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance in accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Social and political activities
In the period from 2001 to 2007, Alferov headed the youth branch of the All-Ukrainian public organization “Union of Hetmans-Statesmen”.
In 2016, he became a member of the Supreme Council of the National Corps political party and became a spokesman for the political force.
In 2018, he began to lead the all-Ukrainian campaign “Memory of the Nation”.
He served as the head of the expert toponymic commission at the Kyiv City State Administration, which is engaged in the consideration of proposals for the renaming of objects of urban subordination, the names of which are associated with the Russian Federation or its allies (satellites).
He is also the author of the scientific YouTube channel “Alexander Alferov”.
