{"id":6488,"date":"2025-06-11T02:13:27","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T23:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepersona.com.ua\/pavel-glazovy-6488\/"},"modified":"2026-07-21T18:24:35","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T15:24:35","slug":"pavel-glazovy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepersona.com.ua\/en\/artists\/pavel-glazovy-6488\/","title":{"rendered":"Pavel Glazovy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pavel Prokopovich Glazovy is a Ukrainian poet, humorist and satirist.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biography  <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was born on <strong>August 30, 1922<\/strong> in the village of Novoskelyuvatka, Mykolaiv region.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before the birth of the future poet, the family lived in the Kryvyi Rih region. His father was a wealthy peasant, his mother was the daughter of a priest. The family had land and livestock, ran a household. However, during the dekulakization, they were deprived of almost all their property. After that, the family was forced to leave the Kryvyi Rih region and move to the Kirovohrad region.      <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1932-1933, his family, like most Ukrainian peasants, survived the Holodomor. During this period, his younger brother died.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After graduating from an eight-year school, Glazovy entered the Novomoskovsk Pedagogical School, which he graduated in 1940. For a year, he worked as a primary school teacher in the city of Novomoskovsk, Dnipropetrovsk region, after which he voluntarily joined the army. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before entering the institute, Glazovy <strong>decided to first serve in the army<\/strong>, so as not to interrupt his studies due to conscription later. After a year of service, he graduated from sergeant school and was appointed as a mechanic at an airfield in the city of Orsha, in Western Belarus. There he <strong>was caught by the Second World War<\/strong>.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was demobilized only in 1947, returning home with three military orders and several medals. In the same year, he entered the Kryvyi Rih Pedagogical Institute, where he began to develop as a writer. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1950, Glazovy transferred to the Kyiv Pedagogical Institute, entering the Faculty of Philology, and moved to the capital. In the same year, he began his editorial career: during 1950-1961 <strong>he held the position of deputy editor-in-chief of the satirical magazine &#8220;Perets&#8221;.<\/strong> Subsequently, he worked in the magazine &#8220;Art&#8221; in the same position, and later became the editor-in-chief of the publication &#8220;News of the Cinema Screen&#8221;.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1968, <strong>he was admitted to the Union of Writers of Ukraine<\/strong>, after which he fully focused on creative activities.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite his popularity among readers, the authorities treated Glazov with caution. Instead of direct censorship, other methods were used against him: for example, instead of the declared 40 thousand copies, his books were printed in a limited edition.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the collapse of the USSR, thanks to the support of connoisseurs of his work, as well as patrons from the United States of America (USA) and Australia, it was possible to publish about ten manuscripts that could have remained unpublished.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Glazovy <strong>passed away on October 29, 2004<\/strong>. He was buried in Kyiv at the Baikove cemetery. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Creativity  <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Glazovy began his poetic work <strong>in his school years<\/strong>, publishing poems in the district newspaper. He wrote mostly on military topics, as well as lyrical works. However, already during his studies at the institute <strong>, he decided to devote himself entirely to humor<\/strong>. An important moment in his career was literary evenings, at which speeches with smiles delighted the student audience.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the advice of friends, he sent several humorous prose poems to the editors of the magazine &#8220;Perets&#8221;. They were read by Ostap Vyshnia, who at that time headed the department of correspondence with readers. Impressed by the author&#8217;s skill, he initiated the publication of four humorous poems at once in the next issue of the magazine. Moreover, it was Vyshnya who contributed to the fact that the student <strong>Glazova was appointed deputy editor-in-chief of &#8220;Perets&#8221;.<\/strong>   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the beginning of work in the magazine, Glazovoy&#8217;s popularity increased, and the magazine itself in those years reached a considerable circulation &#8211; 3.5 million copies.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In general, Glazovy was a prolific author &#8211; he could write up to five or seven smiles in a day. According to the stories of his son Andriy, his father always kept a flashlight near him so that in case of night inspiration, he could immediately wake up and write down the idea. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The writer&#8217;s creative work includes 27 collections for an adult audience, 9 children&#8217;s books and individual texts. Glazovoy&#8217;s humoresques were heard everywhere &#8211; from village clubs and houses of culture to large government concerts.   <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Awards and honors<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1988, Glazovy became a laureate of the Ostap Vyshnya Prize for the collection &#8220;Laughter&#8221;.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1996, he received another award &#8211; he became the first laureate of the Petro Sahaidachny Prize. He was also awarded the Natalia Zabila Literary Prize. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For his contribution to the development of Ukrainian literature in 1997, Glazov was awarded the Order of Merit of the III degree and awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2012, posthumously, the International Charitable Foundation &#8220;Ukrainian House&#8221; awarded him the medal &#8220;For Charity&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> <\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pavel Prokopovich Glazovy is a Ukrainian poet, humorist and satirist.
