Roman Hryhorovych Chervinskyi is a Ukrainian military, intelligence officer, counterintelligence officer, former employee of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Place of Birth, Education<\/h2>\n\n

He was born on December 2, 1974<\/strong> in the city of Kamianets-Podilsk, Khmelnytskyi region. <\/p>\n\n

Career <\/h2>\n\n

During his career, Chervinsky worked in special services and intelligence, has the rank of colonel. He participated in several high-profile operations. <\/p>\n\n

Export of Tsemakh<\/h2>\n\n

The first of the known operations was the secret removal from the temporarily occupied territory (TOT) of an important person involved in the Boeing MH17 crash – the former commander of the air defense (air defense) of the “DPR” militants Vladimir Tsemakh. <\/p>\n\n

In June 2019, a man who lived in the temporarily occupied Snizhne, Donetsk region, was covertly transported across the contact line and detained in Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n

Tsemakh could have been a key witness or even a suspect in the MH17 case, since at the time of the crash on July 17, 2014, he was responsible for the air defense of the area where the plane was shot down. He spent several months in a Ukrainian pre-trial detention center, and in September 2019 he was handed over to Russia as part of a prisoner exchange. <\/p>\n\n

In December 2021, Chervinskyi publicly told the details of this operation. According to him, the Dutch side was so eager to get Tsemakh that it even considered the option of sending 2 combat helicopters for him. At the same time, as he claimed, the Ukrainian special services independently and imperceptibly took him out of the “DPR” without any outside help. <\/p>\n\n

“Wagnergate” <\/h3>\n\n

During the operation, the Wagnerites planned to fly through the territory of Ukraine on a Turkish Airlines plane on the Minsk-Istanbul flight. The special services were preparing to detain them after landing. However, immediately before departure, the mercenaries were detained in Belarus and later handed over to Russia<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

As a result, Chervinskyi and his head in the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), Vasyl Burba, were removed from their posts. Both in the comments of the media announced a possible data leak by the Ukrainian authorities, in particular at the level of the Office of the President (OP), which provoked the disruption of the operation. <\/p>\n\n

In May 2021, a temporary investigative commission was formed at the parliament to investigate possible illegal actions by the authorities in this case, but in November the commission said that it had not established evidence of information leakage<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

At the same time, Bellingcat published its own investigation, which claimed that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the then head of the Office of the President (OP) Andriy Yermak proposed to postpone the operation for a week, which negatively affected its further course.<\/p>\n\n

After the start of the full-scale war, Chervinskyi returned to service again, but not to the Main Intelligence Directorate – he joined the leadership of the military unit of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). There he joined the operation to recruit a Russian pilot. <\/p>\n\n

Shelling of the Kanatovo airfield<\/h3>\n\n

As part of the operation, Ukrainian special services planned to hijack a Russian plane. The enemy pilot agreed to cooperate and was supposed to fly to the Kanatovo airfield. <\/p>\n\n

The Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate allegedly did not give permission to conduct the operation, in connection with which Chervinsky acted without official approval. According to the SSU, the enemy’s special services exposed the plan of the Ukrainian side, and the pilot himself also cooperated with the Federal Security Service (FSB). In this way, the enemy received information about the deployment of personnel of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainian aircraft at the airfield. <\/p>\n\n

On July 23, 2022, Chervinskyi, along with other members of the operation, arrived at the Kanatovo airfield to meet the “defector”. However, instead of the plane, nine Kalibr cruise missiles arrived. As a result of the shelling, the commander of the military unit was killed and 17 Ukrainian soldiers were injured. <\/p>\n\n

After that, the SSU announced suspicion to Chervinskyi under Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (CCU) – abuse of power or official authority by a military official under martial law. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 12 years<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n

Chervinsky, in turn, calls the proceedings falsified. According to him, he coordinated all actions with the leadership. In particular, the measures within the framework of the operation were authorized by the then head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi. <\/p>\n\n
