Emmanuel Macron

Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frederick Macron – President of France (2017 – current time), Prince of Andorra (2017 – current time), Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs of France (2014 – 2016).

Place of Birth, Education

He was born on December 21, 1977 in the city of Amiens.

His father, Jean-Michel Macron, worked as a professor of neurology at the University of Picardy, and his mother, Françoise Macron-Noghès, had a doctorate in medicine.

Macron received his higher education at the University of Paris X – Nanterre. After that, he continued his studies at the Institute for Political Studies, and later at the National School of Administration.

Career

Between 1999 and 2001 he worked as an assistant to the French philosopher Paul Ricoeur.

From 2004 to 2008, he held the position of inspector in the Ministry of Economy of France.

Since 2007, he has also worked as a deputy rapporteur in the Commission on Increasing Economic Growth Rates.

After that, he became an investment banker at Rothschild & Cie Banque.

Political Activities

In 2006 – 2009, Macron was a member of the Socialist Party.

Between 2012 and 2014, he worked at the Elysee Palace in the team of President François Hollande. He resigned on June 10.

On August 26, 2014, he was appointed Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs in the second government of Manuel Valls. He left office on August 30, 2016.

The most important result of his activity in office was the adoption of the “Macron law” on August 6, 2015, which aimed to revive economic growth and intensify economic activity. Its provisions provided for partial liberalization of certain areas of the economy – in particular, shops were allowed to work on Sundays, as well as competition in the bus transport sector was opened, etc.

On April 6, 2016, Macron founded the progressive movement “Forward”, which was positioned as “neither right nor left”.

On November 16 of the same year, he officially announced his intention to run for president of France in the 2017 elections, and also presented his program in the book “Revolution”, which became a bestseller.

In the first round of elections, he received 23.86% of the vote and advanced to the second round together with Marine Le Pen. He was supported by François Fillon, who represented the Republicans, and the candidate of the Socialist Party, Benoît Hamon. In the second round, he competed with the leader of the far-right and won, gaining 66.10% of the vote against 33.90%.

On May 14, 2017, Macron was inaugurated as president in Paris.

On April 24, 2022, the president was re-elected for a second term, again defeating Le Pen. In the second round, 58.54% of voters voted for Macron, while his opponent received 41.46%.

Views

Macron is in favor of preserving the European Union (EU) and supports the principles of free trade. He insists on increasing funding for the armed forces, police and intelligence services, and strongly supports counter-terrorism measures.

At the same time, the politician opposes the public demonstration of religious beliefs, although at the same time he believes that the current legislation is excessively strict on believers.

In the field of foreign policy, he is known as a supporter of the idea of European federalization.

It also supports the policy of openness towards migrants and refugees.

Marital Status

In 2007, Macron married Brigitte Trogneux, who used to be his French teacher.

She is 24 years older than him, and their relationship began in school days. The couple does not have common children.
