Viktor Kyrylovych Lyashko – Minister of Health of Ukraine (2021 – present), Chief Sanitary and Epidemiological Doctor of Ukraine (2020 – 2021), Deputy Minister of Health (2019 – 2020).
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on April 24, 1980 in the village of Osova, Dubrovitsky district, Rivne region. He received his higher medical education in 2003 at the Oleksandr Bogomolets National Medical University.
In 2015, he completed part-time studies at the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine, where he studied at the Faculty of Public Administration in the field of healthcare. He received a master’s degree in public administration in the field of healthcare.
In 2017, he completed a course of the World Health Organization in Barcelona, on strengthening health systems in order to improve the control and treatment of tuberculosis.
Career
In the period from 2003 to 2010, he worked in the system of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of the Kyiv region.
From 2010 to 2013, he held positions in the Ministry of Health (MFA) of Ukraine. He started as a chief specialist and later took the position of director of the department in the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service (State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service).
From March 2013 to February 2014, Lyashko headed the Kyiv Regional Laboratory Center of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine.
In the period from 2014 to 2016, he worked as a public health expert in the resuscitation package of reforms.
From 2014 to February 2018, he headed the public organization “Infection Control in Ukraine”. During this time, the grant project “Development and implementation of an optimal model of outpatient treatment of patients with tuberculosis and their social support as an effective way to improve the results of tuberculosis treatment in Ukraine” was implemented.
From 2015 to February 2018, he served as a public health consultant in the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project “HIV Services Reform in Action”.
In February 2018, he took the position of First Deputy Director General of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
From February 2020 to May 2021, he was the chief sanitary and epidemiological doctor of Ukraine.
On May 20, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada decided to appoint Lyashko to the post of Minister of Health of Ukraine.
