Olha Volodymyrivna Herasymiuk – Chairman of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting (2020 – present), People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the V and VI convocations, general producer of the TV channel “1+1” (2005-2006).
Place of Birth, Education
She was born on October 21, 1958 in Pyriatyn, Poltava region.
In 1981, she completed her studies at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University at the Faculty of Journalism.
Career
In the period from 1981 to 1983, she worked as a correspondent in the newspaper “Komsomolets Poltava Region”, and from 1983 to 1990 she was a correspondent for the publication “Komsomolsky Banner”, which later changed its name to “Independence”.
In 1990-1991, she held the position of department editor in the magazine “Man and the World”.
During 1991–1992 she worked as the head of the department of the newspaper “Nezalezhnost”. In 1992-1994, she held the position of deputy editor-in-chief and co-editor of the weekly “Respublika”, after which she became the editor of the department at “UNIAN”, and in 1995-1996 she headed the department of social problems at the TV company “Nova Mova”.
In 1997, she began her career on the 1+1 TV channel. At first, she hosted the program “Against the Night”, and later became the author and host of such projects as “Un Certain Regard”, “Versions”, “Without Taboo”, “I Want and Will” and “I’m Coming to You”. In July 2005, she was appointed to the position of general producer of the TV company “Studio 1+1”.
In July 2014, Herasymiuk was appointed First Deputy Chairman of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting. Since April 22, 2020, she has headed it.
Political Activities
In the parliamentary elections of 2006, the non-partisan Herasymiuk became a people’s deputy of Ukraine, having received a mandate from the Our Ukraine bloc. In the Verkhovna Rada, she served as a member of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information.
During the early parliamentary elections in 2007, she was included in the list of the pro-presidential bloc “Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense” at number 6. In the Council, she chaired the subcommittee on cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as part of the Committee on European Integration.
In the elections to the Rada VII in the fall of 2012, she ran as a candidate from the party “UDAR of Vitali Klitschko”, but without success.
