Matthew the Poor

Matvey Viktorovich Bidnyi – Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine (2024 – present).

Place of Birth, Education

He was born on November 28, 1979 in the city of Kyiv.

In 2001, he completed his studies at the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine, having received the qualification of a trainer-teacher.

In 2004, he received his second higher education at the Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics with a degree in Enterprise Finance, and in 2008 he graduated from the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management, having received a qualification in the field of commercial and labor law.

In 2020, he received another education, completing his studies at the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine with a degree in Public Administration and Administration.

Career

In the period from 2001 to 2011, he worked in the Kyiv fitness club of the State Enterprise (SE) “Favorit-S”. He began his career as a coach, and later took the position of head of the institution.

From 1999 to 2004, he was a member of the National Bodybuilding Team of Ukraine. He became the champion of Ukraine in 2000, 2001 and 2002. In 2000, he won a silver medal at the World Junior Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In the period from 2005 to 2008, he participated in the sports television project “Patriot Games”.

Work in the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine

In 2016, Bidnyi held the position of Chief Specialist of the Department of Priority Non-Olympic Sports in the Department of Physical Culture and Non-Olympic Sports of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, and from 2016 to 2020 he worked as Director of the Department of Physical Culture and Non-Olympic Sports in the same department.

On July 15, 2020, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

On November 9, 2023, during a government meeting, Bidnyi was appointed acting Minister of Youth and Sports.

On September 5, 2024, the Rada approved Bidnyi as Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

Marital Status

The poor man is raising three children. His wife is Victoria Dashutina.

His father-in-law, Grigory Dashutin, is known as a politician from the Party of Regions. In the summer of 2022, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) detained him on suspicion of collaborating with the military-industrial complex (MIC) of the Russian Federation (RF). The investigation found that since 2014, Dashutin’s company had been supplying products to Russia and continued to do so after the start of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.
