Kirill Alexandrovich Dmitriev is a Russian financier, director of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (2011 – present).
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on April 12, 1975 in Kyiv.
He studied at the Physics and Mathematics School No. 145, but stopped studying due to moving to the United States of America (USA) in 1989.
In the United States, he completed a two-year program at Foothill College in California, receiving a full scholarship to study abroad.
In 1996, Dmitriev graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
In 2000, he received an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Career
Between 1996 and 1999, Dmitriev worked at the investment bank Goldman Sachs in New York, as well as at the consulting company McKinsey & Company, where he was involved in projects in Los Angeles, Moscow and Prague.
In 2000 – 2002, he moved to Russia and joined IBS:
- until November 8, 2001, he held the position of Deputy General Director;
- until May 29, 2002 – Managing Director of the Management Consulting Department.
From 2002 to 2007, he worked at Delta Private Equity, first as an investment director and later as a managing director and partner.
In 2005 – 2006, he headed the Russian Association of Private Equity and Venture Capital.
Among the transactions in which the financier participated and which affected the Russian investment market:
- the sale of DeltaBank to General Electric in 2004;
- sale of the closed joint stock company (CJSC) “CB DeltaCredit” to Société General in 2005;
- transfer of part of the shares of STS Media to Fidelity Investments.
In 2007 – 2011, Dmitriev worked in Ukraine as a managing partner and president of the Icon Private Equity private equity fund.
In 2010, on the air of the Shuster Live program, he said that Ukraine could allegedly face an “economic famine” if it continued its policy of isolation from Russia.
In 2011, he returned to Russia and headed the Russian Direct Investment Fund as CEO.
In 2015, together with Ekaterina Tikhonova, the daughter of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, he took part in the World Economic Forum in Davos.
In February 2025, Dmitriev was appointed special representative of the dictator of Russia for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries. They were also included in the delegation to the Russian-American talks held on February 18 in Riyadh.
During the meetings, Dmitriev was responsible for the investment and economic direction. During the talks, he discussed the resumption of investment and economic cooperation between Russia and the United States.
Marital Status
He is married to Natalia Popova. The latter works as the host of the “Science” program, the first deputy general director of the “Innopraktika” foundation, as well as the public ombudsman in the field of protecting the rights of high-tech leading companies.
