He was born on October 25, 1972 in Kyiv.
In 1994, he completed his studies at the Kharkiv Military University, after which, until 1997, he served in the missile military unit
He also studied in absentia at Odessa State University, where he received the qualification of a psychologist.
In 2014, he completed his master’s degree at Dnipropetrovsk State University of Internal Affairs with a degree in Jurisprudence.
Career
Klymenko began his professional career in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (MIA) in 1998, taking the position of a psychologist at the Center for Practical Psychology, which operated in the Kharkiv region.
In the period from 1999 to 2001, he worked as a senior psychologist in the Department of Work with Personnel of the same Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region. After that, he held the position of a special employee in the Special Peacekeeping Center.
From March to June 2002, he worked as a patrol officer of the operational platoon of a special peacekeeping unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs stationed in Kosovo.
In June 2002, he returned to work in the Kharkiv region, where until September 2004 he held the position of head of the Department of Professional Psychological Selection and Professional Orientation of the Center for Practical Psychology under the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
From 2004 to 2008, Klymenko worked in the central office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. He held the position of chief psychologist of the Center for Practical Psychology of the Department of Work with Personnel of the department.
In February 2008, he was appointed to the position of Deputy Head of the Department of Analysis and Statistical Accounting of the Personnel Inspectorate of the Department of Personnel Support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
From March 2008 to June 2010, he headed the Center for Practical Psychology as part of the Department of Personnel Support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. In June 2010, he moved to the position of deputy head of the department. He also headed the psychological support department of the same department, and remained in this position until April 2011.
From April to June 2011, he served as the head of the Department of Social and Psychological Work of the Department of Personnel Support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. After that, he held the position of head of the department of social and psychological work in the Department of Personnel Support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In the period from September to December 2011, he worked as Deputy Head of the Department of Personnel Inspection and Psychological Support, at the same time heading the Department of Psychological Support of the Department.
From December 2011 to December 2014, he headed the Department of Vocational Training and Education of the Department of Personnel Support of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In December 2014, he was appointed deputy head of the structure, where he worked until November 2015.
From November 2015 to October 2017, he headed the Department of Personnel Support of the National Police of Ukraine.
In October 2017, he received the position of Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine, while at the same time heading the Department of Human Resources. He held this position until March 2018.
From March 2018 to September 2019, he worked as Deputy Head of the National Police of Ukraine.
From September 25, 2019 to January 2023, Klymenko served as head of the National Police of Ukraine.
After the plane crash in the city of Brovary, which led to the death of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Klymenko to the post of Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on January 18, 2023. In addition, he was entrusted with the duties of the head of the ministry.
On February 7, 2023, the Rada approved Klymenko as Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
