Dmytro Gordon

Dmitry Ilyich Gordon is a journalist, TV presenter, editor of the newspaper “Gordon’s Boulevard” (1995-2019), founder of the online publication “Gordon”, deputy of the Kyiv City Council (2014 – 2016).

Place of Birth, Education

He was born on October 21, 1967 in the city of Kyiv.

He received his general secondary education ahead of schedule, passing exams as an external student at the age of fifteen.

In 1983, he began his studies at the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute at the Faculty of Industrial and Civil Engineering. After completing the third year, he suspended his studies and went to military service. For two years he served in the operational-tactical missile forces near Leningrad. He had the rank of junior sergeant and served as a squad commander.

Career

Starting from the second year of study at the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute, his materials began to appear in Ukrainian periodicals, including “Evening Kyiv”, “Komsomol Flag”, “Youth of Ukraine”, “Sportivna Gazeta”, “Young Guard” and “Banner of Communism”. In addition, his articles were published in the all-Union newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda”.

After graduating from the institute, he was invited to work in the editorial office of the newspaper “Evening Kyiv”, where he worked until 1992. Later he joined the team of “Kyiv News”, and after that he continued his career in the publication “All-Ukrainian News”.

In June 1995, he founded his own print publication, the weekly newspaper Boulevard, which has been known as Gordon’s Boulevard since 2005.

Since 1999, he became the author and host of the TV program “Visiting Dmitry Gordon”, which was broadcast on the “First National Channel of Ukraine”, the TV channel “Tonis” and the “Central Channel”. The format of the program included interviews with prominent figures of culture, art, sports and politics, including writers, artists, actors, directors and athletes.

At the end of November 2013, he founded a new online publication called “GORDON”.

In February 2017, his author’s television project “GORDON” was launched on the TV channel “112 Ukraine”, which combined live broadcasts with episodes of the program “Visiting Dmytro Gordon”. On May 6, 2019, he announced the termination of cooperation with “112 Ukraine” and “NewsOne”.

Political Activities

On May 25, 2014, he won the elections to the Kyiv City Council, running in the 38th constituency as an independent candidate. In October 2015, he was re-elected as a deputy in the same constituency.

On November 10, 2016, he voluntarily resigned as a deputy of the Kyiv City Council.

During the 2019 presidential election, he supported the candidacy of Ihor Smeshko.

On May 31, 2019, he headed the election headquarters of the political party “Strength and Honor” before the parliamentary elections.

Marital Status

Dmytro Gordon is in his second marriage to Olesya Batsman, a journalist who holds the position of editor-in-chief of the online publication “GORDON”. Prior to that, she worked for six years as an editor of the TV program “Shuster LIVE” in the studio of Savik Shuster.

He has seven children. From the first marriage, sons were born:

  • Rostyslav (born in 1992), who graduated from the Kyiv Institute of International Relations;
  • Dmitry (born in 1995) – composer, graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, as well as four-time European champion among juniors in united martial arts in the category “kate with weapons”;
  • Lev (born in 2001);
  • daughter Elizabeth (born in 1999).

Three daughters were born in marriage to Olesya Batsman: Santa (born in 2012), Alisa (born in 2016) and Liana (born in 2019).
