Halyna Fedorovna Gerega is an entrepreneur, deputy of the Kyiv City Council V and VI, secretary of the Kyiv City Council (2011-2014), acting mayor of Kyiv (2012-2014).
Place of Birth, Education
She was born on August 9, 1959 in the Lviv region.
In 1978 she graduated from the Lviv Cooperative Technical School, and in 1983 – from the Faculty of Technology of the Kyiv Institute of Trade and Economics.
Career
In the period from 1983 to 1988, Gerega worked as a master of industrial training in the system of vocational education at the Kyiv Culinary School. After that, she held the position of senior engineer-technologist at the enterprise “Association No. 906” at the Higher Party School.
During 1994 – 1998 she worked as deputy director of the enterprise “Hlybochytsia”.
In the period from 1998 to 2003, she held the position of financial director of the limited liability company (LLC) “Cermet AGS”. After that, she began working as the financial director of Epicenter K LLC.
On April 20, 2011, she was appointed Secretary of the Kyiv City Council.
In June 2014, by order of Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, she was dismissed from her post due to the expiration of her term of office.
Political Activities
Gerega was a deputy of the Kyiv City Council of two convocations – V and VI, where she represented the faction “Public Asset of Kyiv”.
In the fall of 2012, she nominated herself in the elections to the Verkhovna Rada VII as an independent candidate. Gerega’s opponent in these elections was the representative of the All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda” Andriy Illienko, who eventually won.
The vote count dragged on for several days, and the situation was accompanied by clashes between law enforcement agencies and supporters of the candidates. Despite the loss, Gerega did not admit defeat, but refused to file a lawsuit, stressing that she did not intend to gain a mandate at the expense of conflicts and bloodshed.
Fortune
According to the rating of Forbes magazine for 2011, Gerega took 38th place among the hundred richest businessmen in Ukraine. Her fortune was then estimated at 248 million US dollars. Her husband, Alexander, was in the 35th position in the same ranking with a fortune of $ 279 million.
By 2020, the couple’s fortune had increased significantly. In the ranking of the richest Ukrainians, compiled by Forbes Ukraine, the Geregs took the fourth position, owning a capital of 1.3 billion US dollars.

Marital Status
She is married to Oleksandr Gerez, a people’s deputy of the IX convocation and a member of the deputy group “For the Future”. The couple has a son.
