Mikhail Mikhailovich Romanchuk is a swimmer, European champion (2018, 2022), silver and bronze medalist of the 2020 Olympic Games, silver medalist of the World Championship (2017).

He was born on August 7, 1996 in the city of Rivne, Ukraine.
Sports career
In the period 2010 – 2012, Romanchuk repeatedly became the champion of Ukraine among juniors in freestyle swimming at distances of 400, 800 and 1500 meters.
In 2013, he again won the title of champion of Ukraine among juniors, this time in the 400 and 1500 meters freestyle.
In November 2015, during the World Cup stage, he won a gold medal at a distance of 1500 meters freestyle.
At the 2016 European Championships, Romanchuk won two bronze medals – at distances of 800 and 1500 meters.
In 2017, at the World Aquatics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary, he became the vice-champion in swimming at 1500 meters, setting a new record for Ukraine – 14:37.14.
As of July 2017, Romanchuk was the owner of ten national records in swimming.
On August 20, he won a gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle at the XXIX World Summer Universiade, which was held in Taipei, Taiwan.
On August 3, 2018, the athlete became the European champion at a distance of 400 meters freestyle. A few days later, he also won the 800 meters, and at a distance of 1500 meters he won a silver award.
On December 16 of the same year, he won gold at the World Short Course Swimming Championships held in Hangzhou, China. He covered the distance of 1500 meters freestyle in a 25-meter pool in 14 minutes 9.14 seconds.
In December 2019, at the European Short Course Swimming Championships held in Glasgow, Great Britain, the athlete took fourth place in the 1500-meter freestyle swim.
In 2020, during the International Swimming League competition, Romanchuk finished with a result of 7:25.73 at a distance of 800 meters freestyle. He was only 0.05 seconds ahead of Henrik Christiansen. This swim became a personal best for Romanchuk, as well as a new record for Ukraine and Europe, surpassing the previous European record of 7:29.17, set by Yannik Agnelem in 2012.
In May 2021, at the European Championships in Budapest, Romanchuk won two gold medals. First, he won the 1500-meter freestyle swim with a time of 14:39.89. After that, he repeated his success at the 800-meter distance, overcoming it in 7:42.6.
On July 27, 2021, during the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the athlete set national and Olympic records. At the same time, he showed a result of 7:41.28 in the qualifying swim for 800 meters freestyle.
