Roman Kostenko is a people’s deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the IX convocation.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on October 21, 1983 in Kherson.
He received his higher education in 2005, graduating from the Odesa Institute of the Ground Forces in the direction of “Combat use and management of actions of units of the Ground Forces”. In 2020, he completed his studies at the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine.
Career
During April 2014 – May 2019, Kostenko took part in hostilities in the east of Ukraine, first in the zone of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), and later within the framework of the Joint Forces Operation. In particular, he took part in the defense of the Donetsk airport among the “cyborgs”.
He served in the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), where he held the positions of platoon commander, and later – a company. After that, he joined the Alpha Special Operations Center.
As of 2016, he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and held the position of Deputy Head of the Alpha Department in the SBU Office of the Mykolaiv region.
Political Activities
In 2019, Kostenko was elected a people’s deputy of the IX convocation, running from the political party “Holos”. He took 14th place on the list, remaining non-partisan. In the Verkhovna Rada, he became a member of the faction of the same name and took the post of secretary of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.
Marital Status
He is married to Marina Kostenko. Together they raise their daughter Polina.
