Ivan Dorn

Ivan Alexandrovich Dorn is a Ukrainian singer, musician, songwriter, producer, DJ, actor and TV presenter.

Place of Birth, Education

He was born on October 17, 1988 in the city of Chelyabinsk, Russian Federation (Russia).

When the future singer was two years old, the family moved to Slavutych, Ukraine, where his father worked at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (Chernobyl NPP). At birth, Ivan had the surname Eremin, but after the divorce of his parents, he took his mother’s surname – Dorn.

As a child, he played a variety of sports, including tennis, chess, checkers, football, swimming, and athletics. He also attended ballroom dancing, singing and piano classes.

At the age of six, he first performed on stage during the festival “Golden Autumn of Slavutych”.

He received a musical education in the piano class.

He was a laureate, as well as the winner of a number of competitions:

  • “Light Up Your Star” – 1st place;
  • “Pearl of Crimea” – audience award;
  • “Black Sea Games”: 2001 – took the 3rd prize, 2005 – took the 2nd prize;
  • “Jurmala 2008”.

Career

“A Couple of Normals”

In 2007, Dorn met singer Anna Dobrydneva, with whom he later founded the duet “A Couple of Normals”.

On October 4, 2008, the band released their debut album “I’ll Come Up with a Happy Ending”.

On April 1, the singer became the host of the program “Guten Morgen” on the M1 TV channel, and in the summer of the same year he began to host the show “Kitchen Respect”.

Since 2010, he has worked as a presenter on the 1+1 TV channel.

In the summer of 2010, the singer left the duet “Couple of Normals”, and Artem Mekh took his place in the team.

Solo career

In 2010, Dorn began a solo career, releasing a number of songs, including “Stytsamen”, “Curlers”, “Northern Lights”, “Especially so” and others. Together with the Apollo Monkeys group, he recorded the song “Blue, Yellow, Red”.

On May 25, 2012, his first solo album “CO’N’DORN ” was presented in Kyiv .

At the MuzTV-2012 awards, the singer was nominated in the category “Breakthrough of the Year”. In addition, at the Steppenwolf 2012 award, he was nominated in the categories “Debut”, “Video” and “Design”.

In 2013, Dorn became the leader in the number of nominations at the Ukrainian National Music Award YUNA.

At the end of YUNA 2013, his album “CO’N’DORN” was recognized as the “Best Album”, and the artist himself was noted as “Best Artist”. He also received this award in 2014 and 2015.

In the fall of 2012, Dorn recorded the soundtrack for the reality show of the channel “Yu” – “Top Model in Russian”, using the chorus from his song “Curlers” in it. He also performed a version of the song “The Holiday Comes to Us” for a Coca-Cola commercial.

In November 2014, he released the album “RANDORN”.

In 2014, he became a judge on the fifth season of the show “X-Factor”, and in 2016 – a mentor in the sixth season of the show “The Voice of the Country”.

After participating in projects, he decided to support and develop Ukrainian performers: he founded the House of Culture and the Masterskaya music publishing house in Kyiv, a space for original Ukrainian musicians. It was Masterskaya who discovered such names as Yuko, the band [O], Tonka and Yuyu.

After the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia, Masterskaya turned into a volunteer center.

In October 2015, Forbes Ukraine magazine published a rating “30 under 30”, which included Dorn.

In February 2017, the singer presented the live album Jazzy Funky Dorn. In July of the same year, Dorn headlined the first MRPL City 2017 festival in Mariupol, where he closed the main program of the event.

On April 14, his new studio album OTD (Open the Dorn), recorded in the United States of America (USA), was released. One of the tracks of the disc – “Collaba” – became one of the main hits in Ukraine in the first half of 2017 along with the compositions “Taet Led” by the group “Mushrooms” and “Vita nado vyvyti” by the band Estradarada.

In 2018, Dorn began to engage in charitable activities. He started a fundraising project for the construction of the Masaka Kids Africana dance school in Uganda. The initiative received wide publicity and was covered in Billboard, Complex and other international media.

In the fall, together with the Courage Bazar Dorn team, he organized a fundraiser to support Ukrainian music schools that needed musical instruments.

In the winter of 2021, he announced the release of his fourth studio album, DORNDOM, which was scheduled for release in the spring of 2022, but it was postponed indefinitely.

In February 2022, he spoke out against Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

In March of the same year, his label Masterskaya closed access to the music catalog for users from Russia and Belarus.

In January 2023, he presented the track “Te la passe” (“Calf passe”), written in collaboration with French rapper Essoh.

Marital Status

In 2013, he married Anastasia Novikova.
