Dmitry Alexandrovich Korchynskyi is a Ukrainian politician, leader of the Brotherhood party, writer, poet, journalist, TV presenter.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on January 22, 1964 in the city of Kyiv.
In 1982 he completed his studies at secondary school No. 206.
After that, he continued his education at the Kyiv Institute of Food Industry, choosing the Faculty of Industrial Heat and Power Engineering. He left his studies in 1984 after completing his second year.
After serving in the army, he entered the Faculty of History of Kyiv University, but in the same year he left the institution.
Career
After the institute, he worked as part of archaeological expeditions in the south of Ukraine, and then held the position of a technician at a building materials factory.
During 1985 – 1987, he served in the ranks of the Soviet Army, in the Iron Division, stationed in the Carpathian Military District. He had a military specialty as the commander of the BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle. Later he was dismissed from the reserve from the post of deputy platoon commander.
Between 2001 and 2004, he was the host of the TV programs “Pro et contra” on TVT, as well as “Double Proof” and “However” on the 1+1 channel.
In 2009 – 2010, he was the host of the TV program “The Fourth Estate” on the TV channel “Kyiv”.
During the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), he fought as part of the volunteer special battalion of the Ministry of Internal Affairs St. Mary until 2016.
Political Activities
In the period from 1987 to 1988, Korchynskyi was a member of the anti-Soviet movement, in particular, he was a member of the “Ukrainian Helsinki Union” (UGS) and joined the activities of student opposition associations, including the “Ukrainian Cultural Club” and “Community”.
In 1989, he was one of the founders and leaders of the Union of Independent Ukrainian Youth (SNUM). He tookpart in the organization of the first large-scale anti-communist actions in Kyiv.
Because of his political activities, Korchynskyi was repeatedly detained.
In 1990, he joined the creation and headed the public organization “Ukrainian Inter-Party Assembly”, which was later renamed the “Ukrainian National Assembly” (UNA). He also participated in the formation of the Ukrainian People’s Self-Defense (UNSO).
He founded the radical organization “Shield of the Motherland”.
In 1992, he went to fight in Transnistria. On November 22 of the same year, during the by-elections to the Verkhovna Rada (Verkhovna Rada), he was a candidate from the single-mandate constituency No. 13, but without success.
In March 1994, he again ran for the Verkhovna Rada, but also without success.
In 1998, he initiated a number of actions in Odesa aimed at protecting local self-government.
Since 1999, he has been the founder and president of the public organization (NGO) “Institute of Regional Policy and Modern Political Science”.
In March 1999, he founded the All-Ukrainian Political Party “Bratstvo”, which was officially registered only in August 2005. He organized party actions in Kyiv and Odesa.
During the parliamentary elections of 2002, he ran for the All-Ukrainian Party of Workers, but once again without success.
He participated in the presidential election in 2004. At the same time, according to the results of voting, he received 0.17% of the vote. After the end of the first round, he expressed support for Viktor Yanukovych.
After Viktor Yushchenko won, the “Brotherhood” party united with the “Progressive Socialist Party”, headed by Natalia Vitrenko, and criticized the course of the new government towards Euro-Atlantic integration.
Euromaidan
On December 1, 2013, in Kyiv, near the Presidential Administration, violent clashes took place between law enforcement officers and protesters, as a result of which some protesters were injured. Dozens of journalists were also injured. In the evening of the same day, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said that the “Brotherhood”, headed by Korchynskyi, was allegedly behind the organization of provocations on Bankova Street, but the politician rejected the accusations.
On December 12, 2013, Korchynskyi’s apartment was searched. Two days later, on December 14, the then head of the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mykola Chynchyn, said that the politician was outside Ukraine. Subsequently, the latter was put on the international wanted list, and in February 2014 he was detained in Israel.
In the end, Korchynskyi fell under the law on amnesty for protesters who were persecuted in the period from November 21 to December 26, 2013.

Marital Status
Korchynskyi is married to Oksana Anatolyevna, who at one time was a people’s deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the VIII convocation from the “Radical Party” of Oleg Lyashko.
The couple has a son, Danylo.
