Serhiy Stanislavovich Rebrov is a football player, vice-president of the Ukrainian Football Association, head coach of the national team of Ukraine.
Place of Birth, Education
Serhiy Rebrov was born on June 3, 1974 in the city of Horlivka, Donetsk region.
Since childhood he was fond of football, and in his school years he also played volleyball and basketball.
He took his first steps in sports in the youth team of Shakhtar from his hometown. Then he moved to the Donetsk club.
Football career
He began his career in the top league of Ukrainian football in 1991, playing for the football club Shakhtar Donetsk. In 1992, he joined Dynamo Kyiv, where he played until 2000.
From 2000 to 2003, he played for Tottenham Hotspur, representing the English Premier League. In the 2003-2004 season, he played for Fenerbahce Istanbul, which competes in the Turkish top league. The following year, he returned to England, signing a contract with London West Ham, playing in the First Division.
In 2005, he rejoined Dynamo. In March 2008, as the captain of the capital club, he signed a two-year contract with Rubin Kazan, which played in the Russian Premier League. Some media reported that the Tatar club offered him an annual salary of $ 3.5 million, but the footballer personally denied this information.
In June 2009, he terminated his contract with Rubin ahead of schedule and ended his professional career in the same year. After that, he worked in the coaching staff of the national team of Ukraine as an assistant to the acting head coach, and was also an assistant to the head coach of Dynamo Kyiv.
Coaching career
In May 2014, Rebrov headed Dynamo Kyiv as head coach. The team spent three seasons under his leadership, and on May 31, 2017, he announced his decision to leave the position.
On June 21, 2017, he became the head coach of the Saudi club Al-Ahli from the city of Jeddah. At the end of the season, he left the team and on August 22, 2018, he headed the Hungarian Ferencvaros. In the very first season 2018 – 2019, he led the club to the championship title, and at the end of the 2020 – 2021 season, he won the national championship for the third time in a row. In June 2021, he left Ferencvaros ahead of schedule, terminating the contract by mutual consent.
In the same month, Rebrov became the head coach of the Al-Ain club from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). At the end of May 2023, he announced his departure from the team.
In June 2023, he signed a contract with the Ukrainian Football Association, becoming the head coach of the national team of Ukraine. The agreement runs until July 30, 2026.
Since January 25, 2024, he has been serving as Vice President of the Ukrainian Football Association.
Achievements
Rebrov is the top scorer of Dynamo Kyiv in the history of the national championships of Ukraine. In the top league for the capital club, he played 233 matches, scoring 112 goals. In the Ukrainian Cup, he played 35 matches, scoring 19 goals, and in European cup tournaments – 67 matches and 30 goals.
As part of the national team of Ukraine, he took part in 74 matches, scoring 15 goals. In the English Premier League, playing for London Tottenham, he played 59 matches and scored 10 goals.
Rebrov was recognized as the best player of the Ukrainian championship three times – in 1996, 1998 and 1999. He became the champion of the country nine times with Dynamo (1993-2000, 2007), won the Cup of Ukraine seven times (1993, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007).
In 1996 and 1998, he was recognized as the best football player of Ukraine, and in 1998 he became the top scorer of the national championship. In 2008, he became the champion of Russia as part of Rubin Kazan.
Marital Status
He was married twice. The first wife is called Lyudmila. They got married in 1998 and a year later their son Dmytro was born.
My friend’s wife’s name is Anna. In marriage with her, two more sons were born: Sasha and Nikita.
