Oleg Yaroslavovych Tyahnybok – People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the III, IV and VII convocations, head of the political party “All-Ukrainian Union “Svoboda”.

He was born on November 7, 1968 in Lviv.
In 1993, he graduated from the Lviv State Medical Institute, where he received a degree in General Medicine, and in 1999 he received a law degree from Ivan Franko State University of Lviv.
Career
In 1989-1990, he worked as an orderly in the surgical department of the Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital, after which he held the position of medical brother in the neurosurgical department for two years.
From August 1993 to July 1996, he completed an internship as a doctor in the urological and surgical departments of the Lviv Regional Emergency Hospital.
Political Activities
He began to engage in political activities while studying at the university. At first, he headed the branch of the Student Brotherhood of the Lviv Medical Institute, and from 1991 to 1994 he headed the Student Brotherhood of the city.
In 1994 – 1998, he represented the interests of the community as a deputy of the Lviv Regional Council. For more than 10 years he was a member of the “Social National Party of Ukraine” (SNPU).
He was twice elected as a people’s deputy of Ukraine – as a member of the Verkhovna Rada of the III and IV convocations. Both times he entered the parliament through the majority constituencies of the Lviv region. In the Verkhovna Rada of the III convocation, he was a member of the Ukrainian People’s Movement faction, and in the parliament of 2002-2006 he was a member of the Our Ukraine party faction, which nominated him as a candidate for people’s deputies. For both convocations, he worked in the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Budget.
Since February 2004, he has been the head of the All-Ukrainian Association (VO) “Svoboda”.
In April 2008, Svoboda nominated Tyahnybok as a candidate for the post of mayor of Kyiv, but he received the support of less than 2% of voters. A similar result was shown during the 2010 presidential election.
In the parliamentary elections in the fall of 2012, the political force won 36 mandates in the Verkhovna Rada of the VII convocation.
According to the results of the 2014 presidential election, he took 10th place among candidates, gaining 1.16% of the vote.
In the early elections to the Verkhovna Rada, held in October 2014, Tyahnybok’s party failed to overcome the threshold of 5%, receiving 4.7% of support. At the same time, according to the results of voting in single-mandate constituencies, 6 deputies who ran from the political force passed to the parliament of the VIII convocation.
During the elections to the Verkhovna Rada in 2019, Svoboda again failed to overcome the 5% barrier.
Marital Status
He is married to Olga Tyahnybok. The couple has two daughters – Yaryna-Maria and Daryna-Bogdana, as well as a son Gordey.
