Donald John Trump is the 45th and 47th President of the United States of America.
Place of Birth, Education
He was born on June 14, 1946 in New York in the family of Fred Trump, who owned a profitable construction business.
At first, he was educated at Kew Forest School, after which he continued his studies at the New York Military Academy.
As Trump personally noted, after graduating from the military academy in 1964, he considered entering a film school, but in the end he made a choice in favor of real estate, considering it the most profitable direction. At first, he entered Fordham University, but two years later he left it and transferred to the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
In 1968, after graduating from Wharton, Trump received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with a specialization in finance. At that time, his father’s company was already in a leading position in the real estate industry, and Donald joined the family business.
Career
In the company of his father, Trump began working on renting housing for the middle class in the areas of Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. In 1971, he moved to Manhattan, where he saw opportunities for large-scale construction and profit thanks to modern architectural solutions.
Trump invested heavily in new projects, including the construction of his third casino, Trump Taj Mahal, which spent about $1 billion. However, by 1991, due to growing debts, he became almost bankrupt. As a result, Trump transferred 50% of his stake to investors who owned bonds.
By 1994, he managed to repay a significant part of the debt, which amounted to about $ 900 million, as well as reduce business debts – about $ 3.5 billion. Despite the fact that he had to give up the Trump Shuttle, which he acquired in 1989, he managed to keep Trump Tower in New York and continue to operate three casinos in Atlantic City.
In 1995, Trump merged his casinos into Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts. It proved to be financially unprofitable, and in 2004 he left the position of CEO, retaining only the role of chairman of the board of directors. In May 2005, the company resumed operations under a new name – Trump Entertainment Resorts Holdings. However, due to the 2008 crisis, the management declared bankruptcy, after which Trump finally resigned from the board of directors.
Since the late 1990s, he has focused on a number of construction projects related to skyscrapers – hotels and office buildings. Despite some difficulties, the real estate business brought him significant success, thanks to which Trump began to license his name for use in commercial construction projects.
45th President of the United States
On June 16, 2015, Trump officially announced his intention to run for president of the United States. Already in July of the same year, he began to participate in the struggle for the nomination of the Republican candidate. His election campaign was held under the slogan “Let’s make America great again.”
On November 8, 2016, he won the presidential election, ahead of Democratic representative Hillary Clinton. On January 20, 2017, the inauguration ceremony took place in Washington.
On September 25, 2019, Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi announced the launch of impeachment proceedings against the president, accusing him of abuse of power.
In 2020, Trump again ran for a second term, remaining the Republican candidate, but lost the election to Democrat Joe Biden. After the defeat, he refused to recognize the results of the vote.
On January 6, 2021, during a meeting of the US Congress, Trump appealed to his supporters to march to the Capitol building. On the same day, a group of his supporters broke into the Congress building, which led to the temporary evacuation of parliamentarians and the death of five people. For his participation in incitement to riots, the House of Representatives announced a second impeachment of Trump on January 13, making him the first US president to be impeached twice.
His term ended on January 20, 2021. And on November 16, 2022, he again made an official statement of his intention to run for president of the United States in the 2024 elections.
47th President of the United States
On November 5, 2024, Trump won the presidential election again. After the victory, he announced that Pete Hegseth would be appointed to the post of US Secretary of Defense.
The inauguration ceremony of the new one took place on January 20, 2025 near the Capitol building. During the solemn event, Trump took the oath of office of the 47th president.
Criminal charges
On August 8, 2022, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a search at the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida as part of a case involving Trump’s alleged removal of classified documents after the end of his presidential term.
On April 4, 2023, a court in New York indicted him on 34 counts of first-degree falsification of documentation. Trump himself has denied his guilt on all charges.
On August 1 of the same year, the politician was charged with new charges – among them were “conspiracy to defraud the United States”, “conspiracy to interfere with official procedures”, “interference and attempted interference with official procedures”, as well as “conspiracy against rights”. These allegations were the result of an investigation into possible attempts by Trump and his entourage to influence the results of the 2020 presidential election.
On August 24, 2023, Trump voluntarily appeared before law enforcement officers in a case of election interference in the state of Georgia. He was charged with more than a dozen charges, including those related to attempts to annul the results of the vote. After his arrest, he was taken to the Fulton County Jail, where he was fingerprinted and a prison photo taken. The detention lasted about 20 minutes, after which Trump was released on bail of 200 thousand dollars.
On May 31, 2024, a jury in New York found him guilty of all 34 counts in the case of falsification of business records.
